Halloween

I took the girls Trick or Treating last night while Scott stayed home and handed out candy. For some reason, most of the towns around here don't actually do Trick or Treating on Halloween night, and Friday nights are apparently definitely out. Regardless of what the calendar said, the girls and I had a blast. They were real troopers, out walking around for nearly an hour. They kept saying "We don't want to go home yet!"

Molly was a black kitty (same as last year) and she was meowing at everyone. I made Megan's unicorn costume. It didn't come out as well as I'd hoped, but she was happy with it, so I guess that's what counts.

They really brought home quite the candy stash. We just dump it all into one bowl and then we will ration it out a few pieces at a time over the course of the next few weeks (till we decide we've had enough and then dump it one night after they're in bed!)

Molly's 3rd birthday

We celebrated Molly's birthday this weekend, a few days early so we could spend some time with my parents, too. Scott was sick so he wasn't able to be with us, he was trying to rest up at home.

I improvised a pig cake for Molly. She loves the book "If You Give a Pig a Pancake" and this seemed easier to make than a kitty (her other favorite animal). She loved it - she kept saying "That's my pig cake" like that was what she'd been asking for all along. In reality, the only guidelines I got were "pink" and "chocolate" so I guess this fit the bill.

After dinner, we opened gifts. She received several new puzzles, lots of PJ's, and various dolls.

Giving "Oopsie" Bear a hug. She had proclaimed her favorite color was green that morning, so I was thankful that they'd only had a green bear left the day I was shopping!

Playing with Megan and Grandpa. Megan was very fascinated with Molly's new toys and had a bit of jealousy that she didn't receive lots of new things, too. We all had to keep reminding her that her turn would come.

Rocking and singing a lullaby to her Strawberry Shortcake doll.

Three new friends.

All ready for cake. She sang Happy Birthday along with us and even blew out the candles like a pro.

Time is going by so quickly, I can't believe my baby girl is three already. I can't imagine where the time has gone - it seems like yesterday she was just a tiny little thing. Well, she still is, but compared to this baby, she sure does seem grown up!

The Pumpkin Patch and more apples!

We made a trip back out to Paulus Orchards to go to the pumpkin patch since the weather was so nice this weekend. The girls had fun scouting around the patch to find the perfect pumpkins.

Megan proudly shows off her pumpkin.

It was also the last weekend that they were offering apple picking, so we picked a bag full of apples, too. Since it was so nice, we got much better photos this time...and look, we remembered jackets, too!

All the goodies loaded up and ready to go home. What a fun excursion for a Saturday afternoon!

The old swing

We visited Nana Caroccia this weekend in Jersey Shore. Scott and a friend went on an over night bike trip on the Pine Creek Rail Trail, so it was just the girls. We had a nice time visiting and the girls had a blast playing with Nana's toys and of course, swinging on the swing in the yard. In fact, this is a highlight of every trip. This old swing has been in the big old pear tree since I was a little girl. My dad climbed the tree and tied it up there over 20 years ago. I'm so glad the girls have been able to make some special memories of swinging at Nana's house. The pear tree is getting old and slowly dying...I don't think the swing has too many more summers left in it.

Impromptu Fall Photos

The weather has been so nice and the leaves are starting to change colors. I had been wanting to get out for a walk and get some photos of the leaves, but instead ended up taking pictures of the girls. I was really happy with out these impromptu photos of the girls came out!

I did take a few of the fall colors, too. Many of our neighbors have mums planted in their flower beds and I liked how these two looked together.

Our mums with one of the leaves Megan collected.

Apple Picking 2008

Every year on the weekend of my birthday, for the past 4 years, we have gone apple picking. Since moving here, Paulus Orchards has been our orchard of choice. Anyway, with the rainy weekend forecast, I was really bummed that we weren't going to be able to go. When the scattered showers forecast for today seemed to be pretty scattered, I convinced Scott to go anyway. We got everyone ready and headed out with high hopes. It seemed nice enough, till we were almost there. Then it started to drizzle.

We bought our bag to put our apples in and I grabbed the umbrella out of the car just in case. We grabbed Molly's windbreaker that happened to be in the car, too, just in case she got cold. Unfortunately, we didn't have one for Megan. She said she'd be ok, so off we went. We headed first for the Empire apples...think pie :)

By the time we were done getting those, it was raining pretty hard, and we were all getting pretty wet (and we were only half done!) On the way to the golden & red delicious, we had to pass the car. Scott made Megan a poncho out of a shopping bag that she wore grudgingly. You should have seen the daggers when he suggested it to her. I told her she should be happy to have such a resourceful daddy and that she would never again have us telling her to put her head in a bag, so she should take advantage of the opportunity. She didn't see the humor.

Scott with the half-full apple bag, after the poncho struggle.

See, I got wet picking apples too, I didn't just make the Scott & the kids get soaked. And got a new haircut last week, too, although this isn't the best view!

Megan's poncho. She got over it and it helped keep her dry. Oh, she got a new haircut last week too.

Molly's not impressed. Once her apple was gone, she was over it.

Megan was happy to get back into the car...look at that wet hair!

I made Scott stop on the way out so I could take a picture of the pumpkin patch, full of pumpkins. Sometime next month, we'll head up on a weekend that it's NOT raining and pick out a few pumpkins. Then the girls can play on all the cool new playground equipment that they've added, too.

Rainy Day Fun

It rained a good part of the day yesterday and the kids were full of pent-up energy (donuts for breakfast anyone?) so I bundled them into play clothes, raincoats and boots, and took them outside for some puddle jumping. They had an absolute blast.

Before they were too wet:

And just getting started. You can just tell that they're thinking "I can't believe she's letting us do this!"

Megan working on her technique - she made some really big splashes.

And Molly tried, too.

When we were ready to come in, I dumped over an inch of water out of each of Megan's boots and almost an inch our of Molly's too. Their hair was dripping and their pants & feet were soaked. After changing into dry clothes, they warmed up with hot cocoa.

My daughter can read!

Megan brought home her first WEB (can't remember what that stands for!) book yesterday. It was about kites. She sat down on the couch with Scott and read it straight through, only getting stuck briefly on the word animal. Then she read it to me again in the evening, and even read most of the comprehension questions on the back all by herself. I'm thinking she might need to move up a level - it was way easy for her and not a challenge at all! I'm so proud of her reading skills and she is progressing so quickly. She is learning to break down words into parts she can figure out and learning all other kinds of strategies for figuring out words she is unsure of.

We printed out the list of words that the Kindergartners are expected to know by sight by the end of the year and showed it to her. We casually asked if she could read any of them - she went straight down the list of 60+ words and read them all! Scott mentioned this to her teacher the other day and she said she had recognized that Megan was pretty bright. She said that she'd track down the 1st grade word list so we could work on that with her instead :) I was happy with that response, because I really want her to continue to be challenged and do not want to see her bored in school.

Apparently they started on their math workbooks today and Megan was excited about it. She had some activity sheets with some numbers to cut out and some various shapes, kind of like the pattern blocks. Along with her "homework", we received a note about their math curriculum and the need for her to have a "Homework Helper". There is a form that they expect us to fill in and send back with the name of her helper filled in. Um, I thought that it was kind of a given that we were both her "Homework Helpers", as her parents without needing to fill in a form about it. So far, I've been pretty happy with how things seem to be going, but I'm really a little puzzled on this one.

Fall Wardrobe for Megan

I participate in a group called The Fabric Obsession. It's a coop group of fabric addicted ladies who like to collect fabric sew who pool their purchasing power to get wholesale prices - great fun! In addition to the fabric buys, there folders where we can discuss sewing related questions as well as occasional challenges to create something. There was recently a challenge to create a 6 piece fall wardrobe with two accessories. I decided to enter, and even despite my vertigo, managed to finish up just in the nick of time.

All of my pieces are teal/turquoise and were made for Megan. I was inspired by the colors in the Park Slope fabrics I got from the coop. The teal cord is from Joann's, as is the lining for the jacket hood and the knit for the tee & leggings. The fleece for the jacket came from the PA Fabric Outlet. The lace on the purse & peasant top came from my grandmother's stash - it was in the drawer of her sewing table when I inherited it.

I was able to finish everything up yesterday afternoon and here it is all together: A teal cord jumper from a New Look pattern, the coat is from Ottobre Designs, a skirt I kind of made up based on parts of a Simplicity pattern, a peasant top based on a Simplicity pattern, leggings from a New Look pattern and a tee from a Kwik Sew pattern. Accessories are a headband from the Heather Bailey's free tutorial and the purse pattern is available from Ottobre's website.

And some individual pictures:

And a few modeled pictures.

Excuse messy hair & non-matching dress. She wanted to model this as soon as it was finished.

Overall, I really enjoyed this project, but I'm ready to work with some new colors!

Megan started Kindergarten!

So I know I've been a slacker about keeping up the blog, but sorry...we've been busy! I'll be back soon (sometime after I finish the mountain of forms homework that we received in Megan's backpack today) with some pictures of the fun we had in July & August but for now wanted to share Megan's first day of Kindergarten.

She's been looking forward to this for the entire summer. The past week, we've had to talk every day about how many days are left till the big day. Two Fridays ago, we went shopping for a first day dress and a backpack. Last week, she and I visited her classroom one day and one evening, Scott went to the back to school night to meet her teacher and learn the details of what we'd need to know before she started school.

Megan was so excited that she had a hard time going to sleep last night. This morning, she was up bright and early (defined as "before 7 am" in our house) and she wanted to get dressed before I was even into the shower. We got out the door right around 8:15 and made it to school a few minutes before 8:30, just in time to get her into the line and send her into the school with her new classmates. She was a little nervous, but there was another girl who was also a bit nervous, so they stuck together and did great on the way in! No tears for anyone :)

Here she is all ready to head out...notice the water dribbles down her front.

Talking backpacks with one of her classmates in line.

And they're off!

Scott said she talked his ear off the whole way home. It sounds like she had a great day. They had gym class today and played a game called Pirate Ship. They did some artwork and she was proud to have written her name on it. No playground time today, but hopefully they'll get to do that soon! She says she made some new friends and can't wait to go back tomorrow. Several times this evening, she reminded me how happy she is to be a Kindergartener and how she can't wait for tomorrow!

While Scott sleeps...

I came home from work to a quiet house. I knew that something was going on because the girls are almost always awake when I come in. I see that Scott has dozed off on the couch reading a book. I am surprised the girls are so quiet upstairs. I head up to look for them and see that they have gotten the tent out and set it it up. Strange, I don't see them in here playing in the tent, oh well, I figure they're in the playroom.

So I head to the playroom and find that they aren't there either. Then I notice that the gate for the attic stairs has been set aside. Hmm...I head up to investigate. They had gotten into the wrapping paper and were wrapping presents for me, complete with bows and lots and lots of tape.

See? That's my stack of gifts. I don't know how long they were up there, but I guess it was a good long while!

They were so excited about the gifts and we had to pretend it was my birthday so I could open them. I had ooh & aah over each one as I opened it. I wonder if this means I don't get presents on my real birthday?

Fireworks!

We just got the girls tucked into bed after watching the "Grand Finale" fireworks for the city of Harrisburg's three day Musical Festival over the 4th of July (sorry - no pictures!) Megan didn't stop talking the entire time. "When is it going to start? How long is it going to last? Why are there so many? How do they make them?" And our favorite..."They are lasting a long time - they must have bought ten packs or something."

This was Molly's first time seeing fireworks - I don't think she knew what to think at first. She leaned back in my lap and just watched when they started. After a few booms and flashes, she started to be concerned about the noise. She kept saying "I want them to stop." I kept talking to her about the pretty colors and asking if she thought they were pretty, and eventually she relaxed and just enjoyed the show. She kept telling us what colors she saw once she started to enjoy it.

They were both sad when the show was over and already wanted to know when the next time we'd see fireworks would be!

My Family

Some online friends of mine pointed out this great tool you can use to make your own family bumper sticker image. Well, Megan spotted mine and wanted to color her own. So, we went to the website, she picked out everyone's bodies & heads. Then we printed it out and we set her up at the table with the markers & scissors. This is what she came up with...she's so creative :)

Megan's Ladybug Dress

This is my latest creation for Megan...a very twirly strawberry & ladybug dress. I used a McCall's pattern and made the bodice a size 5. When she tried it on, it was huge and didn't look good at all. So I had to remake the bodice in a size 4. While I was at it, I also ended up doing the straps as ties rather than regular straps as the pattern called for. I love this combo of berries, ladybugs and polka dots and she loves it too. So much so that I woke up this morning to her calling me asking for help getting the straps tied!
And one more of her swinging in it. Sorry her face looks shiny, I couldn't figure out how to fix it in Photoshop and the picture was too cute not to share!

Fun Long Weekend!

We had such a fun weekend. Having three days off was great, and I wish we could do it more often. Saturday, we just kind of hung out together around the house. While the girls napped, I went to Joann's and picked up a few things at the Memorial Day sale. I picked up a really cute planter for $7 too. When I got it home, I stuck some herbs in it and will bring it inside to keep fresh basil in my kitchen year round :)

Sunday morning, Scott got up and went on an early ride with the Harrisburg Bicycle Club. When he got home, we went for a picnic at Gifford Pinchot State Park. Nothing fancy, just bologna sandwiches & PBJ. The girls had a blast just going there to eat and then check out the playground very briefly. It was really busy plus Molly was tired and ready for a nap. Here's a picture of Megan trying out the seesaw.

When we got home and while the girls were napping, I did some sewing and finished up a dress for Megan (watch for photos!) while Scott took another bike ride.

We didn't feel up to cooking, so we had leftovers for dinner. The girls dined on the patio and had leftover pancakes & sausage from breakfast the day before. They loved it!

Monday, we just lounged again. I did some more sewing and finished up a pair of PJ shorts for Megan. Scott did some more bike riding. We hung out with the girls. It was just such a fun relaxing weekend, it makes me wish I had long weekends more often! To top it all off, the weather was great - in the 70's & 80's every day, but not too humid (well, not till Monday when the thunderstorms started to roll in).

Happy Mother's Day to Me!

Scott was quite good to me this year for Mother's Day! He got me a new lens for my camera - a 50mm F1.4. All of today's photos were taken with it and I can see this one quickly becoming my favorite. It is so clear an sharp, even to look through the camera with it on. I took the photo above with no flash, and the aperture set to 1.4 - I love how the center of the markers is in focus and everything else is blurry. Very cool!

Megan in jammies after eating donuts for breakfast. Again, no flash, and just window light, I think. It just looks so clear and crisp compared to no-flash photos with my other lens!

It does well outside too. Before lunch, we went to the park to burn off the sugar high from the donuts. It was overcast and chilly, and the jungle gym is in the shade. Molly played on the "little playground" while Megan played on the big one. Molly loved sliding and sliding and sliding. On the "big playground" Megan met a boy who will be starting Kindergarten with her in the fall. Maybe they'll be in the same class - they seemed to get along pretty well!

Matchy-matchy

Today the girls wore new dresses that I picked up for them yesterday at the outlet mall. They loved them, and they really liked having matching shoes, too! I love the dresses on them - I can see them getting a lot of wear - aren't they cute?

In other news, I discovered today that Molly can swing herself. I put her on the swing and gave her a few pushes. Then I walked around in front of her to take a few pictures of her swinging on her "big girl" swing. After a few minutes, it occurred to me that she was still going pretty well, and she was going high

Planting Dandelions

More from the same walk. These are the dandelions Megan picked on the walk. She took the photo while she was walking. After this one, she decided she was done and handed me the camera back. Then ran for the flower beds...

...so that she could plant her dandelions! I tried to tell her that she needed roots for them to grow, but she insisted. She worked hard to get her flower stems buried into the ground so that they would stand up just right. I'm surprised she didn't ask to water them.

Even though those flowers were all wilty the next morning, I bet we'll still end up with dandelions in the flower bed somehow!

Megan's Perspective

The other night, we took a walk around the block with the camera. My plan was to get some cute photos of the girls on our walk. Megan had a different idea. She commandeered the camera for herself, and took some of her own pictures. I've included a few of them here - I think we have a budding photographer on our hands!

Dandelions & Violets. We see a lot of these on our walks. And usually come home with a fistful of them to put into a glass of water!

I like the composition on this one. It's a little blurry, because she doesn't hold still long enough to take the photo, but I like how the tulips are on the one side.

Dogwood blooms, I think?

More tulips. I think these are her favorites - she took a LOT of photos of tulips!

Riding Lessons

We took the girls over to the school parking lot near our house to practice riding their bikes. Megan rode a few times without her training wheels last year, so we wanted to see how it would go without them this year. She did ok, but she really needs to regain her confidence. She kept asking if we would put them back on so that it would be easier for her.

And Molly needs to learn to pedal - she gets frustrated because her trike is "not working" when she sits there with her feet on the pedals! Let's just say it's going to take a lot of practice for them both!

The Swingset

We got Megan and Molly a swingset this summer since we don't have a park in walking distance. Scott put it together in the backyard under the supervision of Megan. From my understanding that meant he worked as quickly as he could to put it together while Megan asked every 15 seconds "Daddy, why isn't it done yet? You're taking too long!" This swingset is honestly the best $150 we've spent in years. The girls love it - they go out and swing nearly every day.

At first, Molly really only rode in her swing. Now, she loves to climb up the slide ladder, swing on the glider and even try out the big kid swing. We might have to replace the baby swing next spring with the other big kid swing!

Megan taught herself to pump her legs to make herself go in only a few days. She loved the glider when we first got the swingset, too. Now, she likes sliding on the slide every which way (think head-first, on her back) and hanging upside down on the bars on the end.

Here are some pictures of the girls on their swingset from last weekend. You can see that they really have a blast playing on that thing!

Apple Picking

We did my favorite fall activity and went apple picking at Paulus Orchards in Dillsburg today. The girls had a blast. Molly enjoyed walking around and eating apples fresh off the trees. Megan picked apples and wanted to carry them all over with her instead of putting them in the bag. We rode in a wagon pulled by a trailer from the parking area out to the trees.

The weather was fantastic, sunny & low 70's. We all enjoyed the nice weather and the chance to hang out as a family. It was a great start to the fall season :) Posted by Picasa

Mini Vacation at Pine Creek

Last weekend we was the big Cline family reunion at Pine Creek. I remember going to this reunion since I was a kid. It's all of Nana's family in a pavilion at Pine Creek eating, talking, and just hanging out.
This year, we rented a house with my parents, my brother, Aunt Sara & Uncle Kevin's family, and Nana. We had an awesome time and we're all talking about doing this for a whole week next summer. The house backed right up to the creek and it was just so peaceful & relaxing. The kids had a blast, too!

The girls wanted to go right into the water when we got there. Molly waded right in in her clothes till we just took them off and let her go in her diaper. Megan at least put on a swimsuit!

Megan the flower girl

Jeff & Marisa got married this weekend and Megan was their flower girl. She loved every minute of it and she and Angelita both did an awesome job. Marisa was a beautiful bride and the ceremony came together nicely. The bride & groom left the church in a MONSTER Truck, yes, that's right. No limo, see the photo below.

Molly didn't go to the wedding - she was too tired! She was up 5+ times the night before, so we left her at Nana's house. She did fabulous for her, without a single complaint. Even asked to take a nap then slept for 2 hours. Nana was in heaven!

Climbing

We took the girls to the park downtown while we were in Jersey Shore for the weekend. This is a park I remember playing at when I was little. It was just a few blocks from our old house on Lincoln Avenue and on way on the walk to school. Right by the pool.

Megan thought it was great. She loves to climb and she did a great job climbing all over the old jungle gym. Notice all the paint layers? I don't remember what color it was the summers I climbed it, but it's definitely stood up over time! She also enjoyed climbing on the new jungle gym. Molly even got into the fun, climbing up and sliding down the slide with Nana Stone and riding on the merry-go-round (again, the same one that was there when I was little)!

Cheerleader in the making

Lately we've been talking about how cute and bubbly Megan's personality can be. How she's good at making friends. How someday, she'll be the popular kid at school, who's also nice to everyone. We also mentioned that she'd be a great cheerleader someday.

When I found this cheerleader's uniform in Megan's size at the consignment store, I couldn't pass it up. I showed it to her and she wanted to put it on even though she had no idea what a cheerleader was. As soon as she had it on, she looked the part. We found some videos on the internet and she decided that when she's a teenager in high school, she wants to be a cheerleader. Just like Mommy. Posted by Picasa

The Red Dress, Part 2

So Megan had a red dress last fall & winter (see picture below). It wasn't anything fancy, just cotton with flowers. I had even bought it second hand. I had no idea it would be such a hit, but she absolutely loved it. She wanted to wear it every day. And sleep in it. She was obsessed with the red dress. She was devistated when warm weather came this spring, and she had to stop wearing it. Of course, it was getting too small, so it wasn't lasting much longer anyway.

Well, when it started getting cooler again, she asked about her red dress. I explained it was too small, and she was ok with that. But she looked a little sad. And so I went searching on eBay. After bidding on several auctions for similar dresses, and losing, I found THE dress in her size. I was so excited. I bid well over what any sane person would spend on a dress for a preschooler, and surprisingly won it for merely $3.24.

When the box arrived, I acted fairly nonchalant about it and let her open it. At first she said "It's a beautiful red dress." As she inspected it more closely, the light came on and she got so excited when she realized it was just like the one from last year. Of course, she stripped right there in the living room to change into it (see picture above). I am pretty sure it made her day.

I hope she doesn't grow out of this one before the novelty wears off. But just in case, I'm already looking for the next size up! Posted by Picasa

Megan the artist

So, I come out from putting Molly to bed and I see Megan sitting in the chair where I had been sitting to work on a scrapbook page in Molly's baby album. She has a red marker in hand and is haunched over the page. My gut reaction was to say "Megan, stop!" She hopped out of the chair and ran into the living room, scared at having been caught.

Once I saw that she had drawn on the back of a page I had already completed, I was disappointed, and told her that she needed to draw on her own paper, not my scrapbook pages. And her reply was "But I wanted to draw a picture of Molly." So we talked about asking first, and only drawing where she's allowed to draw, etc. But then I let her finish her artwork.

She was so proud of her pictures of Molly. There are three drawings of her. One is just her face. One is her body, complete with hands (long fingers!) and the other is her crawling. I was so impressed with the detail that she put into her pictures.

The last time she really drew much, it was just circles and loops, and that wasn't really very long ago. All of a sudden, she's writing letters and drawing people. She is becoming quite the artist.

This one's going into the scrapbook anyway, just for Molly to see how much her big sister loved her. And tomorrow we're starting on Megan's own scrapbook so she can draw without worries of ruining my work! Posted by Picasa

Day at the park

We had so much fun at the park this day, just Megan and I. She ran around from place to place, trying out all the equipment while I tried to take some pictures of her and played with the camera.

Of course, when she was on the swings, all she could say was "Mommy, put the camera down and push me. Higher, higher!" So, I did.

Megan loves the swings. I wonder what it is...maybe feeling like she's flying through the air. Free like a bird. Strangely, she prefers the "baby" swings to the "big kid" swings. I think the harness makes her feel safe. Which is ok by me, because it doesn't scare me nearly as much when she lets go of the chains for a minute that way!

Ah, well, I wish we lived closer to the park so that we could go more often. And I just wish we had more time altogether to spend time there. She loves it, and it makes me happy to see her so happy. Posted by Picasa

Things you don't think about till you're a parent

It never occurred to me that I should worry about whether the park has bathrooms or where they're located. That is, not until I took my newly-potty trained daughter to play on the swings. When all of a sudden, she says urgently "Mommy, I need to use the potty" with her eyeballs looking like they're ready to float away.

I look around and think, "Oh no, where are the bathrooms in this place?" They must be in the buildings by the baseball field, so we high-tail it over there, down the hill, pushing the stroller. Poking around each corner, we don't see them, until finally, jackpot. And then my heart sinks - they are padlocked shut. No way to get in.

Meanwhile, Megan is looking at me like she's not going to last much longer. So, I'm wracking my brain to figure out what we're going to do, while I say "Let's go back to the car - I'll think of something." I know she's not going to make it back home without peeing in her carseat (ick.) And I don't really want to try to have her squat and pee on the ground, likely getting it all over herself (double ick.)

Finally, I have an idea and ask "Megan, do you think you could pee in a cup?" She says she'll try it. We get to the car, I dig an empty coffee cup out from my drive one day last week, and pull the lid off. We go around beside the car, and I shield her with the door and the stroller, so she has some privacy. I held out the cup and told her to squat. She did a great job and was so proud of herself. She just kept saying "I peed in a cup." At least I know that urine samples will be a breeze if that is ever necessary.

Oh the things she says

We've had some funny conversations lately. Megan and I, that is.

While getting her dressed...

Megan: I want to wear this shirt.

Me: Megan, that shirt doesn't match. It isn't the right color to go with those pants.

Megan: Well, is it the left color?

Me (trying not to laugh): Yes, it's the wrong color.

My princess is three.

How did this happen? Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday, she was a tiny baby, completely dependent on us for everything. Brand new to us and oh so fragile. Now, she's a walking, talking, running and jumping kid. Not a baby. Not a toddler. A preschooler, by official terminology.

I am so proud and amazed when I listen to her playing. She mothers her baby dolls. Wraps them in blankets and sings to them and rocks them and nurses them. She has nearly all of her books memorized. She can recite many of them just by looking at the pages. She recognizes all of her letters - both upper and lowercase. She has an amazing memory and an ever-growing vocabulary. She uses words like "actually" and uses them correctly, too!

She can make her baby sister squeal with delight just by walking into the room. She has struggled with the change in our family's dynamics with the addition of her baby sister. But slowly she's coming around, seeing that Molly may be a good playmate very soon. She often asks to hold Molly or stops to talk to her when one of us is holding her. I don't think she realizes it yet, but when Molly is able to crawl after her, she's probably going to have a permanent shadow!

I just can't believe my baby is three already. Where did the time go?

Megan

Megan can be such a sweetheart. When she wants to be. Just the other morning, she came in from a grocery store trip with her dad and said to me "Mommy, you are so beautiful." I was sitting on the couch in my sweatpants, with wet hair, drinking a cup of coffee. Trying to catch a few minutes of morning TV while she was out with Scott and Molly was sleeping. It just made me want to hug her. Underneath all the "two-year-old" attitude going on, we really are getting through. She really is learning to appreciate others and be nice. She just doesn't always feel like it.
